On a per-episode basis, that comes to roughly $1,400 to $2,100 for each finished episode. Of the more than 600 titles it had produced for overseas markets, Jiuzhou also reported, about 80 percent were dubbed Chinese adaptations and 20 percent were original overseas productions. With dubbing, a studio can recycle a finished domestic series, meaning the expensive shoot happens only once. Stage Four: Cutting to 60–100 Seconds In the edit suite, the footage is divided into episodes of 60 to 100 seconds, framed vertically at 9:16 for a phone. With room for a turn or two of plot at that length, each episode is built around a question the next episode promises to answer. The mechanism that pulls you from one installment to the next is the cliffhanger, and it is the house style. Placement is the controversial part, because paywalls landing right on a cliffhanger are among the most common complaints about these apps, along with auto-renewing weekly passes and rising coin costs. Any coin generator or modded “unlimited coins” app promising a way around the wall is unofficial and best left alone. Stage Six: AI-Generated Series and Animation The camera drops out entirely in the latest production stage. Animated motion comics now appear alongside ReelShort’s live-action catalogue. The Lost Heir, a 58-episode family saga, follows Arthur Lancaster, who loses his memory while saving his brother, grows up on a farm as “Johnny” and eventually unmasks the foster sister who kept framing him.
